It’s easy to make perfect decisions with perfect information. Medicine asks you to make perfect decisions with imperfect information.

My inquisitiveness and interest in the complexity of the human body naturally led me to a career in medicine. Early in medical school, I discovered my fascination for the molecular mechanisms that underlie and drive disease phenotype. This led me to pursue my doctoral education here in Professor Jorge Ruas’ lab, where I study metabolism and tissue plasticity. My main focus has been to study the metabolic adaptations in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and the immune system upon physiological and pathophysiological challenges. In parallel to my doctoral education, I am pursuing a career in orthopedic surgery where hope to combine my academic and clinical interest through translational research with the focus on metabolism in orthopedic conditions such as fracture and wound healing, as well as in bone and soft tissue tumors.
